Following the success of the Greatest Album Ever in Rock and Roll history contest started by DDriver I thought the same type bracket challenge to determine who the users of these CBS boards would choose as the greatest Performer / Band in the same genre would be a natural.
I would like to run a bracket competition for both single artists as well as groups. I am pretty sure that many members of nominated bands will find themselves in the "singles" brackets also.
I am curious to see which of the non obvious choices will join The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who and few others in the 16 for Bands as well as who joins Eric Clapton and others as single acts.
So let the nominations begin. Please submit your top ten for consideration in both categories.
I will compile the top 16 for both and submit any ties to the group for a vote off.

Top 16 Bands / Artists of Rock & RollBands: The Allman Brothers Band Beatles Grateful Dead Who The Band Doors Pink Floyd Lynyrd Skynyrd Little Feat Booker T & The M.G.'s - yeah thats right. As the Stax Records house band Booker T & The M.G.'s were the band that played on all those hits by Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, The Staple Singers, and many many others. Whenever you heard, "Hold On, I'm Coming" or "Soul Man", or "I've Been Loving You Too Long",and so many other great songs - thats Booker T & The M.G.'s. When John Fogerty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he chose Booker T & The M.G.'s to back his HOF induction preformance. Fogerty called Booker T & The M.G.'s, "The greatest Rock and Roll band of all time." |
