The preliminary results are in and I have figured who all the solo acts are. However the last 2 spots can not be determined in the bands category as of now. So please choose 2 from the groups below. Please voice your opinion even if you did not submit any choices in the initial poll.

I will keep the voting open for these spots till 11:00 pm est Monday night.

Beach Boys
Queen
Metallica
Nirvana
Black Sabbath
The Doors
Grateful Dead

Please note several performers/acts received votes in both categories, 2 of whom had enough to make it into both brackets. After some discussion with a few of the voters here I have elected to place them in the solo category despite the fact they rarely ever performed alone. Two other performers who I always thought belonged in the band grouping received votes as a solo act and enough to make the final 16. When the bracket is posted you will see right away who I meant.

I will say I was very surprised by the lack of votes for quite a few.

Here are a few of the solo's that didn't make the cut:

Jackson Browne
Van Morrison
Janis Joplin
John Fogerty
Joe Walsh
Frank Zappa
Ted Nugent
Steve Winwood
Peter Gabriel

-Again, Yank, I think that I am going to go with the greatest influence (as I see it) in choosing the two-

  • Black Sabbath (influenced an entire generation of hard rock/heavy metal/grunge-  they were very unique for their day)
  • The Beach Boys (might seem somewhat of an odd choice for me at first blush, but their vocal harmonies set the standard-  even for The Beatles)

-Hope it helps!  And yeah, I am quite suprised at some of the solo acts that missed the cut...  But then "good" does not always equal popular, hey?  And some, alas, may have been forgotten by some of the younger folk...

Hi Yankee, these are the last two on the list from what I gather.

I do like all the bands on the list, I am sad to see the Wailers did not make it.  I love the Doors but the light went out with Jim.  Funny that all these bands that are on this list are still around in one form or another.

I am going by longetivity here and say the Grateful Dead and the Beach Boys.   Both bands will perform anywhere for their fans and the B. Boys were just jammin' in town last month.  I will not be disappointed if any of the other bands make it.

So far, what band was the top vote getter?

About What's On My Mind
Following the success of the Greatest Album Ever in Rock and Roll history contest started by DDriver I thought the same type bracket challenge to determine who the users of these CBS boards would choose as the greatest Performer / Band in the same genre would be a natural. I am sure all my friends and fellow Rock and Roll fans will make this a great success. At least I hope so
